Our Standards

Every product on this site has earned its place here.

We hold a strict set of standards for what we feature, whether it's something we've developed ourselves or a brand we've chosen to carry. If it doesn't align with how we believe animals should be cared for, you won't find it on The Intentional Pet.

This page is our answer to a question we think every guardian should be asking: not just "does this work," but "is this actually right for my animal, or just well marketed?"

What We Look For

Slide image

 Natural, Species-Appropriate

Ingredients and formulations suited to how dogs and cats are meant to live and thrive, not generic, one-size-fits-all solutions.

Slide image

Preventative, Not Reactive

Products designed to support long-term wellbeing as part of a daily ritual, not a quick fix reached for only when something's already gone wrong.

Slide image

Transparent and Considered

Brands that are upfront about what's in their products and why, developed with integrity rather than trend-chasing.

What We Won't Feature

We're just as clear on what we say no to:

• We won't feature products built on fear-based or urgency-driven marketing.

• We won't feature harsh chemicals or unnecessary additives.

• We won't feature anything designed to chase a trend rather than genuinely support your animal's wellbeing.

• We won't feature anything that causes harm, inflicts pain, or relies on fear to achieve results.

This extends beyond product formulation: we won't feature training methods, tools, or approaches that rely on fear, discomfort, or force.

Every product and practice we feature must prioritise your animal's wellbeing, safety, and trust, always.

And we won't feature clinical, sterile brand experiences that make caring for your animal feel like a transaction instead of a ritual.

"If it doesn't meet our standards, it doesn't earn a place here."

Developed by Us, And Beyond

A number of the rituals you'll find here are developed by us directly, built from the ground up to reflect everything we believe about intentional, natural care.

Where we feature additional brands, they've been chosen with the same level of care. Each one must fully align with our values before it earns a place in our range.

This isn't about offering the most products. It's about offering the right ones.

On Packaging

We think about packaging the way we think about everything else here: with care, not performance.

Our mailer bags are made from recycled and ocean-reclaimed plastic. Where we can, parcels are wrapped by hand in paper hex-wrap rather than plastic fill, and our own treat bags are crafted from 100% recyclable plastic.

Some of what arrives from our suppliers isn't packaged to the same standard, and that's genuinely outside what we can control. Rather than send it straight to landfill, we save and reuse it: boxes, bubble wrap, and more get a second life in our own parcels before they're ever thrown away.

It isn't a perfect system. It's an honest one, and we're always working to make it better.
